A night (and day) on the town

The boys spent Saturday night with Aunt Christie in her apartment downtown. On our way down, we stopped at the Stax Museum, and Alex and Reed had a good time taking in some Memphis history and dancing to some fun music. Then we met up with Aunt Christie for dinner at her favorite neighborhood hangout - the Brass Door. After dinner we dropped them off for the night. They watched some basketball and stayed up late : )

Sunday morning they played soccer in Court Square, checked out the awesome view from the roof, had brunch and saw the ducks get in the fountain at the Peabody. I think they might want to move downtown after all their fun!

Alex's first basketball game

Alex finally had his first basketball game! SLS has a staggered basketball schedule because there are so many teams and only two gyms. So finally after watching Reed play for months, Alex gets his turn. He did great running up and down the court and staying in position. Just like in soccer, he's not the most aggressive kid on the court, but I think he had a good time.

And they won.

Getting warmed up.

It goes in!

Game time!

Go Tigers!

Alex and Reed love sports. They love to play them, watch them, talk about them. I know this may have a little something to do with their father (ha!), but it is so much fun to watch them really, really enjoy something so much.

Last night, we joined some friends at the Tiger game. While most of the kids were running around and playing, Alex and Reed were glued to the game. They cheered. They talked about the players. They enjoyed.

And it was fun.

Valentine's dinner

We love new experiences in our family, and we look for any excuse to do new things. Since we are not really into celebrating a traditional Valentine's day, we thought it would be fun to experience hibachi for the first time. The boys loved the special tricks, the smoke and the food. They both tried to eat with chop sticks, and we all had a great time. Happy Valentine's Day!

Reed's Family of the Week

This week we have our very last family of the week celebration at Christ the King! Reed has been anxiously awaiting his turn to be the star for the week, and he was super excited to make his poster and show Buddy Bear a good time at our house.

Reed even made Buddy Bear a hat, scarf and jacket for the winter.

But the biggest treat was having Alex come read a book to Reed's class. We talked about it over the weekend, and they picked out a book together last night. Alex was really excited (and maybe a little nervous) to be Reed's special guest. He did a great job reading and then the teacher led a little question and answer session about the Johnston family. It was one of the cutest moments ever!!

You have to turn the volume way up on these...

This clip starts right after one of Reed's friends asked if I had any special names for them:
