Alex's 9th birthday

Since we were out of town, we celebrated Alex's birthday a little differently this year. We started off the morning with cupcakes with Grandma and Pops. Then Alex and Reed ran their first 5K. They did a great job and were sprinting to the finish! After the drive back home, we had dinner and cake with Moz and Gramps. We had such a great day celebrating our big boy!

Chad Run 2014

We had such a great time in Columbia for the Chad Run this year. Now that Caroline and Thomas are in school with Alex and Reed it's fun to watch the kids play together. We spent some time touring campus, did a little swimming, hung out at the Black & Gold and had dinner at the Columns.

Easter in New Orleans

The Easter Bunny found us in New Orleans! And we found a church just a few blocks away to attend Easter mass. It was a beautiful old church, and we enjoyed doing something different for Easter.

After we changed out of our Easter clothes, we visited the World War II museum. Alex loved all the history and information, and we stayed most of the day there. Reed was not as interested in the museum part, but he loved walking out on the super-high walkway that went around all the hanging planes.

Since it was our last night, we decided to have beignets for dessert again. We went to Cafe Beignet this time, and it was great. They had live music in this cool little spot just off Bourbon Street. It was a relaxing way to end a great trip!

New Orleans - part 2

On our second day in New Orleans, we drove over to Slidell for a swamp tour. I expected it to be creepy and dark, but it was a gorgeous day and everything was sunny and beautiful. We saw alligators, snakes, some pretty birds and wild pigs. It was a really great tour and a fun new experience for all of us.

After lunch in Slidell and even more pool and hot tub time, we ventured out for dinner again. I even got to do a little shopping and the boys saw some cool boats on the river.

New Orelans - Part 1

We had a great trip to New Orleans over the long weekend. Brian and I love how unique the city is, and we had a great time showing the boys around. I think they loved the food the most, and I have to agree!

Our first stop on the way into town was Middendorf's restaurant. It's a place that Brian and I have wanted to try for a while, and it was the perfect stop on the drive down. It was a little chilly and cloudy, but we had fun eating indoors and trying some new foods.

Early the next morning, we were up and ready to go. Our first stop was Cafe du Monde for beignets, and they were super delicious. The boys made a huge mess with the powdered sugar and loved every minute of it. After breakfast, we stopped by the cathedral and took a kid's tour of the French Quarter. We all learned a lot, and it was fun for the boys to do something that was just for them in a city that is so grown up.

After an awesome lunch at Napoleon House, we headed over to the Insectarium. There were tons of creepy and pretty bugs, but the boys loved eating insects the most! They both tried chocolate chip cookies with crickets and chocolate covered caterpillars. I didn't try one, but they said that they were delicious.

After a rest and some pool time, we went to dinner in the French Quarter. The meal was absolutely delicious, and the boys enjoyed a root beer float for dessert. We happened to walk out of the restaurant right into a band playing on the street. It was a fun ending to a great day!
