Memorial Day at the Lake

We spent Memorial Day at the lake with Aunt Christie, Grandma, Pops, Moz, Uncle Rick and Uncle Murray. Even though it rained most of the weekend, we managed to squeeze in some outdoor fun and had a great time.

Holidays always make me think of what we were doing this time last year. Well, on Memorial Day last year, Reed couldn't walk and was still having a bottle (and spitting it all up!) and Alex's yellow boots came up above his knees. Oh, we've come a long way, and it just keeps getting better. Happy Memorial Day!

Alex and Reed suited up for some swimming.

Brian and Reed sharing a laugh.

Alex on the Slip'n Slide. So much fun (for the kids and the adults!)

Wishing Grandma a happy early birthday with the cupcakes that Alex and Aunt Christie made.

The scavenger hunt that Grandma set up all around the yard. Alex was pretty into the clues, and Reed was pretty into the sword!

Happy Birthday, Moz

Tonight we went over to Moz and Gramps to celebrate Moz's birthday. We also got to see their new place, and Alex and Reed approved of their room there. We had some dinner and cake (without lighted candles - hard to find matches when you've just moved!) Moz and Gramps loved the painting of their "old" house, and we had a great time. We love you, Moz!

Are they related?

Tonight, I took Alex and Reed out to help me move the sprinkler. I have always done things like that with Alex because he's such a great helper. We do laundry, plant bushes, bake cookies...you name it, Alex has helped. And now, Reed is getting to the point where he can do some of those things, too.

So, out we went. And into the mud Reed went. Alex, of course, was horrified and kept calling Reed a "disaster," which is a term that I clearly need to stop using to refer to his brother! Reed was not bothered by the whole situation and had a great time playing in the mud, wiping it on his shirt and losing his crocs right in the mud. Sometimes I really wonder how they could be related!

But, my belly is still clean, see???

Ooops...lost a shoe.

Hay is for...

This past weekend, I was out of town, and Brian, Alex and Reed got some bonding time (with the help of the grandparents!). Alex went to a birthday party for a friend and we got a couple of cute photos with the horses at the party.

Mother's Day

Today was the best Mother's Day. We had our moms over for brunch (Moz and Grandma) and had lots of good food and fun. Alex and Reed helped Brian make a dessert treat and played with Aunt Christie all morning. Alex is old enough now to understand Mother's Day, and he did a great job saying "Happy Mother's Day" and "I love you". Reed doesn't really get it yet, but he sure did enjoy the dessert! It was perfect.

Kid talk

Tonight, we were playing in the driveway, and Alex said, "I have a good idea. I think we should go for a walk." So, we did.

Other things that have been said lately that make me smile:
  • Reed: No. No. No.
  • Reed (when asked what's your name?): I'm Reed.
  • Alex: I see London, I see France... (you know the rest)
  • Alex: I'm going to close the bathroom door so you can't see me in my underpants. (See a theme here?)

Muffins with mom

Today, Alex's school celebrated Mother's Day early, with Muffins with Mom. We went to his regular pre-school chapel service where Pastor Neugebauer did a special Mother's Day "sermon" and the kids sang two songs about mothers. In the sermon, he talked about how mothers love their babies even though they can only poop and burp (the kids LOVED this!) and can't do anything useful like mow the grass or help with dinner. But, moms love them anyway, just like God loves all of his children even when we are not perfect and can't help ourselves. It was a great comparison for pre-schoolers and it was really interesting to see them pay close attention to such a big message.

Then we headed back to the classroom for muffins, fruit and juice. It was a fun treat to spend some extra time with Alex and I got a present...he made me a flower corsage and a potted flower of himself.

Reed's first parent-teacher conference

Reed had his first parent-teacher conference last week (yes, he's only 1). His teacher said that he is very smart, does well with the other kids and doesn't miss a thing. A very good report all around. He will be moving up to the 2 year old room for the summer session and then on to Christ the King in July. He's getting so big!

Here he is showing off some of his artwork and reading skills.
