Alex's field day

We had an awesome day today at Alex's first field day! The weather was terrific and the kids had a great time. They have a cute little tradition where the kids all sign each others shirts, and they loved the chance to make their mark on their friends. The events were softball toss, class relay, sack race, obstacle course and tug of war. KB was a little lacking on the speed events, but they pulled it together and won the tug of war! At lunch we had a picnic with friends and snocones. So, so cute to see the kids have so much fun (and the parents too!)

Alex's birthday day

We did lots of celebrating today for Alex's birthday. He got donuts this morning to take to his class, and Brian and I both went up to school for a special lunch. Then Moz, Gramps, Grandma, Pops and Aunt Christie all came over for dinner and presents. Alex requested pizza, chips and cake, so that's what we had! I think everyone enjoyed a fun kid dinner. He opened some cool gifts and was really surprised and excited about his new basketball goal!

Alex is SIX!

Oh my, time flies! I can not believe that Alex is six years old today. This year has been absolutely wonderful, amazing and perfect. Five was great and I know six will be even better. Alex is growing in so many ways, and I'm so proud of the big boy he has become.

In the last year, Alex started kindergarten, learned to ride a bike, learned to read whole books and write whole sentences. He went over to play with a friend all by himself for the first time and got his first love note from a girl. He has made tons of new friends and still remembers his old ones. He has perfect attendance at school and got perfect report cards every nine weeks. He loves basketball, golf and knows more sports teams than I do. He loves dinosaurs, rockets, super heroes, the Three Stooges and Tom and Jerry.

Alex is the sweetest, kindest, most gentle boy I know. He is always looking out for others and is just a great kid to be around. Happy Birthday, Alex!

Easter Sunday

We had such a happy Easter this year. The Easter bunny left some good treats and the boys enjoyed eating candy first thing in the morning. They were really also excited about "getting handsome" for church and did a great job getting dressed and being quiet during mass.

After church, we headed downtown to Aunt Christie's for a delicious brunch with Grandma, Pops and Duane. Of course, we picked up a few more bunny goodies and ate way too much. We even went out on the roof to enjoy the view.

Finally, we went over to Moz and Gramps' house for a final bunny stop. We flew kites and ate more candy! Happy, happy Easter!

Summer Saturday

Even though it is only April, today felt like a summer Saturday. We enjoyed a Tiger baseball game, grilled out some burgers and played outside. I love those days!

Easter egg hunt

Every year we look forward to the Cole boys Easter egg hunt. And as always we had a blast hunting eggs, hanging outside and enjoying a crawfish boil. The boys loved playing with all the other boys there and we loved hanging with the grownups. A great start to the long weekend!

Easter party day

Easter parties are some of my favorite school parties. Everything is bright and colorful and there is tons of yummy candy. Both boys had their parties yesterday so we had a double treat! Reed dyed eggs and ran around with his buddies Rich and Gray. Alex played with his buddies Andrew and Huey and had a visit from the Easter bunny. Both had egg hunts full of that yummy candy!

Favorite days

My favorite days are nothing days. Nothing to do, nothing to go to, nothing to check off the list. Today was one of those days. After the excitement of Alex's party yesterday, we needed it! We slept in late, ate pancakes, played with all the birthday toys, played outside, dyed Easter eggs and even did a little Easter shopping.

I think part of my love for nothing days is how few and far between they are. We are busy doing things all the time, and I love that too, but days like today are a special treat. As the boys grow up and have more sporting events, friends, etc. I know they will become less and less frequent. So today, I soaked it up and enjoyed every minute of our nothing day.

This may be the perfect example of a nothing day - all the boys in the backyard (even Ollie) just playing. I love it!

And we did not buy this outfit, but it is the first time Alex ever had a tie on!

Alex's 6th birthday party

Today we celebrated Alex's 6th birthday at Putt Putt Golf and Games. We invited the whole class and a ton of kids came to celebrate! We played miniature golf, ate pizza, ice cream and cupcakes, and played video games.

It was kind of overcast, cold and windy, but the kids didn't care a bit. They loved hitting the ball and a few even made holes in one (including Reed!) I think Alex was most excited about the pizza and the edible white chocolate golf balls on the cupcakes. After opening presents, we headed down for 30 minutes of video game time. Everyone (grownups and kids) enjoyed playing the games, winning tickets and picking prizes.

I think Alex is a little confused that he's not actually six yet, but I'm sure he'll be happy to celebrate again on his actual birthday. What a fun day celebrating a fun boy!
